David Wheeler Discusses Cyber Security as a Board-Level Issue in NAREIM’s Viewpoints
David Wheeler discussed cyber security issues in the National Association of Real Estate Investment Managers (NAREIM) Legal & Compliance 2015 Report: The Rules are Changing, which was published in early January of this year. Click here for the full article.
In the piece, he explained that any inquiry by the SEC would look for proof of precautions handled well in advance of a breach.
“It’s no longer an IT guy’s problem. This is a board-level issue,” said David, who is also a member of the ABA’s Cyber Security Task Force.
The piece included highlights from David’s role as a panelist on the Cyber Security & Compliance panel at the NAREIM 2015 Legal & Compliance Council Meeting in Boston in November. The program centered on the changing rules of real estate and covered the evolving economy, SEC War Stories, Investor Reporting & Communications, Board Level Awareness and Compliance with Cyber Security, and Structuring for Different Capital Sources.
